About the Artist

I'm a watermedia artist, instructor, and retired art teacher. In my current series of work, I'm using a variety of watermedia in layers to achieve a highly textural and dynamic presentation.

After 40 years of painting realistic interpretations of landscapes, florals, and architectural themes, I find this new concentration on the relationships between the basic elements of art (shape, value, line, color and texture) to be a more exciting personal approach to art. Methods, materials and themes change, but a consistently good composition and design hold the viewer's eye.

In Ella's Lifetime: 100 Artists for Ella - was displayed at the Downing-Gross Cultural Center in Newport News, VA.  My contribution is a creative interpretation of Ella Fitzgerald's Anything Goes.  100 artists, painters, printmakers, sculptors, and photographers were given titles of Ella's songs to use as motivation for pieces to hang in the center and then travel globally to sister cities in France, Germany, 2 cities in China, and Japan through April 2018. Recently purchased by the UVA McIntire School of Commerce for their permanent collection.
